Locatify recently helped a visually impaired person to locate their seat inside a 20,000 person capacity stadium using Ultra-wideband Indoor Positioning Technology. The proof of concept was enabled by a partnership with NTT Data in London, an association of blind people and a large indoor stadium.

Locatify developed an Android indoor navigation app and installed an Ultra-wideband infrastructure to enable a Haptic Feedback Device (provided by NTT Data) to guide the user to their seat.  What is particularly impressive about this project is the fact the indoor positioning was accurate enough to navigate someone to their exact seat in a stadium which requires 3Dimensional positioning of the user.

UWB Indoor Positioning

Ultra-wideband or UWB is the most precise indoor positioning technology to reach consumer markers. Using an infrastructure of connected UWB Anchors and a UWB transmitting tag attached to an asset, the tags position can be calculate with 30cm precision in near real-time. For detailed information on UWB for indoor positioning, check out our other UWB blog posts.

Indoor Turn-by-Turn Navigation

Locatify installed a UWB Indoor Positioning System which could communicate the users location (with 30cm accuracy) with a Haptic Feedback Device to give the user turn-by-turn prompts. The UWB Positioning data was passed to a Locatify Android app via API and the Android app would then tell the user to move forward, backward, left or right.

Locatify Creator CMS®

The Locatify Creator CMS allows users to upload a floor plan and add stations or zones which will trigger media content or act as destinations. Once these stations have been added to the map, the user can draw paths along the map which will be the navigation routes. The Locatify app will show the user the floor plan and using an algorithm and Indoor Positioning Technology, the app can determine the users location and illustrate the navigation route on the map (or in this case, provide the navigation via haptic feedback).
