Indoor positioning can be integrated with apps to deliver content when and where it matters most. 

What is Indoor Positioning?

Indoor positioning uses Bluetooth or Ultra-wideband infrastructure to track a person or asset’s position. Locatify apps are integrated with BLE & UWB for enabling indoor experiences.

Who is Indoor Positoning for?

It is suitable for any organization that wants to create immersive experiences such as museums or showrooms, for tracking movement behavior and delivering guidance inside venues.

How is Indoor Positioning used?

BLE Beacons are placed throughout a venue that connects with a user’s mobile device to understand their location.  UWB is similar but requires a tracking tag to determine the precise location.

Core Features:

  • BLE Beacon basics are explained in detail here.
  • BLE vs UWB is explained in detail here.
  • BLE Proximity detection can be used to roughly detect a device or user’s location and to then trigger an action such as playing an audio file.
  • BLE Trilateration can be used to calculate the device or user’s position and to show their location on a map with roughly 1.5m positioning accuracy. This requires a device to be able to connect with 2-3 beacons at any one time.
  • Battery-powered means beacons can be installed anywhere without the need for cabling.
  • Asset tracking via BLE Beacons such as employee tracking is not currently supported by Locatify.

  • Locatify’s Creator CMS: Is compatible with both BLE Beacons and Ultra-wideband.
  • Locatify Apps: Such as TurfHunt and SmartGuide are both compatible with BLE and UWB for enabling indoor treasure hunt games or tour guides.
  • Custom Apps: Such as the Automatic Museum Guide, Event Guide or Retail Guide are all compatible with both BLE and UWB. 
  • User location: Can be displayed during an indoor tour or game using Beacon trilateration or UWB. 
  • Outdoor Location Technology: To determine the user’s location outdoor, GNSS or GPS is used.
  • Indoor venues without location triggering: Can use a floor map with clickable areas for containing tour content, or if no map is required, indoor tour/game content can be displayed in a list.
  • Devices and software: Both Android and iOS devices are supported with Locatify apps available for iOS 8.1 + Android 4.3+ devices.
  • App store publication: Locatify built apps can be published to the Locatify App Store and Play Store developer accounts for use on both Android and iOS.
  • Offline use: All tour content is available offline once the app and tour have been downloaded. The user’s device needs to be connected to the internet in order to receive content updates. To receive push notifications or receive app updates the device needs 3G/4G connection.
  • Installation of BLE Beacons or UWB: Certified local installation partners available or do it yourself with the assistance of training material and virtual assistance.  No installation is needed for published GPS apps.
  • Support: Professional support including a reasonable service-level agreement (SLA).
