UTmessan is one of the largest IT events in Iceland. The purpose of the UTmessa is to highlight the importance of information technology and its effects on individuals, businesses and Icelandic society alike. The goal is to see a significant increase in the number of students who choose technical disciplines in universities across the country and especially in computer science.

Davíð Fjölnir Ármannsson from Háskóla Íslands (University of Iceland) set up the Fróðleikur Háskóla Íslands game with assistance from Locatify, to help gamify the conference experience to encourage guests to interact with exhibits and exhibitors in a fun way.

Indoor Treasure Hunt Game

The game was published to the Locatify TurfHunt shared app where guests could find the game and play it for free. When a player was within range of a BLE Beacon, the player would be given a challenge such as take a photo with an exhibit or to answer a question relating to a nearby exhibit.

BLE Beacon Proximity Triggering

Locatify placed a number of Kontakt.io BLE Smart Beacons throughout the conference venue which would trigger a challenge within the app when a player was within the specified range. The Beacons are easy to install and run on coin cell batteries.

Locatify Creator CMS®

The Locatify Creator CMS allows users to upload a floor plan of the venue to an indoor project and add stations or zones which will trigger media content and challenges. Once the stations have been added to the map, challenges can be assigned to each station. The game master can control the game from the Creator CMS and view and uploaded game content such as uploaded photos or drawings.
