An Organisation With a Mission

Nature Play WA is a collaborative not-for-profit organisation promoting and supporting children’s unstructured play outdoors (‘nature play’) for the benefit of their health and happiness. The organisation’s primary role is to spread the nature play message and to work to increase access to nature play resources, events and programs.

A lot of Nature Play WA’s work involves collaborating on events and programs with Government, local governments and community groups who want to achieve the same health and wellbeing outcomes that nature play promotes and supports. When the COVID-19 global pandemic swept through the world (2020) Nature Play could no longer run the large scale community participation events we had scheduled. We needed to find a new way of doing things.

Play Trails App Development Story

The team at Nature Play came to us with a clear goal and a team dedicated to managing the project. Starting with a Locatify white-label app template, the Play Trails team provided branding assets and a customised User Interface (UI) design that was aligned with the white-label template, but with improvements to the layour of information and design.

The custom UI and content template designs were quickly implemented, with additional tweaks to the CMS to allow for customising the new content in the app. For example; Play Trails wanted to tell users how long the trail would take, with distance, time and number of stops shown before the user installed the trail. We created a template with new customisable input fields for adding Distance in KM, time and number of trail locations, each with customisable graphics.

The project required some further customisations to meet project goals, such as a new “Memory Game” with timer and customisable memory card images, and additional changes to the Admin scoreboard, for removing uploaded game content from the database/scoreboard to meet local data protection standards.
