New Way to Unlock Tours and Games: QR & Number Pad

It’s time to give some love to an activation method that’s been quietly available on our platform — and is now getting the attention it deserves for adding flexibility and creativity to your guides or treasure hunts.

Until now, you’ve had a variety of powerful options to trigger content:

  • Manual activation
  • GPS-based triggering for outdoor tours
  • BLE beacons or UWB for seamless automatic indoor experiences

And now, we’re putting the spotlight on QR code scanning and 4-digit number pad entry — an interactive way to unlock location content that’s simple, engaging, and ideal for many use cases.

How It Works

With this method, each point in your project can be accessed by:

  • Scanning a unique QR code, or
  • Entering a unique 4-digit code on a virtual Number pad

You can also lock the content if game challenges are added, meaning players won’t be able to view the content until they scan the QR code or enter the correct code.

Key benefits include:

  • No complex setup
  • No reliance on wireless signals like GPS — just scan a printed QR code or enter a code manually
  • Quick and easy access — scan or enter a code, and you’re in!

Where Can It Be Used?

You can enable this activation method in:

  • A list of points, which can be set up indoors or outdoors. This is available in our shared apps TurfHunt and SmartGuide, as well as in branded native apps.
  • An interactive indoor map for navigating buildings or exhibit spaces.

This gives participants multiple ways to engage — either through a clean list layout or a dynamic map-based interface.

This method is especially useful for:

  • Indoor spaces with multiple floors and stations
  • Outdoor tours or treasure hunts in areas where GPS isn’t reliable
  • Temporary setups or event spaces needing a quick, simple solution
  • Schools, museums, and exhibitions looking for low-tech, high-engagement experiences
  • Art galleries, where each exhibit can have its own unique QR code or code to unlock detailed information, audio guides, or interactive challenges

Why This Is a Game-Changer

  • Adds a fun, game-like interaction — like unlocking secrets or codes at each location
  • Increases variety — choose the activation method that fits each project best: GPS, BLE beacons, UWB, manual triggers, or QR code/number pad entry
  • Tracks visits — gain valuable insights on which exhibits or stations your visitors explore
  • Gives you more control — perfect for organizers who want a simple, low-maintenance setup
  • Works anywhere — ideal for indoor/outdoor use, schools, events, museums, and galleries

Use Case Examples

  • A school treasure hunt where students scan codes in different classrooms
  • A museum tour across multiple floors, unlocking videos or puzzles at each station
  • An art gallery with a unique QR code or number pad code at each exhibit to reveal detailed content or interactive challenges
  • An event-based game where QR codes on posters around town unlock hidden stories or trivia
