Westman Islands (Or Vestmannaeyjar to the locals) is a picturesque archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The island has 4,000 inhabitants and is a popular tourist destination in the summer months. The app was a tourism project funded by the local municipality.

Challenge

To provide an easy to use free tour guide app that helps tourist navigate the island, find and book services, check the weather and learn about the landscape and rich history of the island.

Solution

The app uses the Locatify white-label automatic tour guide template with content provided and managed by the local tourism board. The content includes a complete database of services, points of interest and GPS enabled audio tour content. The app is connected to real-time local weather through an API.

This app uses outdoor GPS tour guides, map markers with categories and a customisable home page menu with pages for additional information such as client website, announcements and about the app.

Customisation

The client provided branding assets such as app icon, loading image, banner logo and chose the theme colours. The app has some custom content templates for tide times.
