Laarbeek is a lush and beautiful municipality with around 23000 inhabitants in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The municipality was created on 1 January 1997 by the merger of the former municipalities Aarle-Rixtel, Beek en Donk, and Lieshout (which also included the church village Mariahout).

Challenge

Laarbeek wanted a simple and accessible way for visitors to find nature, history, and art in the area without the use of a paper booklet.

Solution

They partnered with Twinck and Locatify to develop the Discover Laarbeek app, an app with multiple categories and accessibility features.

GPS Triggering Local Points of Interest

The app is divided into 4 categories, Bicycle tours, Information, Art, and Tours. Tour content and local points of interest (services and attractions) are automatically triggered using GPS when visitors approach specific locations. Categories and tour content can be easily updated in the Locatify CMS and pushed to the app in real-time.

Accessibility features

The app is compliant with the EU Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act. It uses good contrast between text and background and works with the device’s low-vision accessibility features settings, such as enlarging text and inverting colors. All elements of the app (including buttons) are also compatible with screenreader software used by persons with visual impairment.
