Web App Lite: Museum Audio Revolution
At Locatify, innovation is our driving force, and we’re excited to unveil our latest offering: Web App Lite, designed to revolutionize museum interactions and audio guide experiences. In this blog, we’re going to discuss the solution, features, and use cases.
Answering the Call for Innovation
Web App Lite is the product of collaborative efforts with our museum partners who sought a streamlined audio guide solution. In response to evolving visitor needs, we crafted an innovative solution to address the challenges museums faced in providing audio guides.
Simple, Affordable, and Accessible Solutions
Despite our expertise in BLE and UWB technologies, the demand for a cost-effective, single audio-track web app led to the development of Web App Lite. This solution aligns seamlessly with visitors’ smartphones, ensuring audio content accessibility solely within museum premises.
Introducing the Web App Lite Experience
Employing the Flutter framework, Locatify developed the Web App Lite, offering indoor or outdoor tours with a single audio track in multiple languages. The App content such as multimedia elements—image, text, and audio—in multiple languages, is added to the Locatify Content Management System. This content is swiftly published and made immediately accessible within the app, ensuring an immersive and prompt visitor experience. Museums place QR codes at counters, enabling visitors to access the app and download the audio guide instantly and effortlessly. Navigation controls enhance exploration, with content automatically deleted after a two-hour window, serving a dual purpose: safeguarding museum content and preventing visitors’ phones from memory overload.
Web Apps vs. Native Apps: Understanding the Distinctions
Native apps typically require installation from app stores, whereas web apps, accessible via web browsers, offer immediate access with lightning-fast download time. Web App Lite exemplifies the adaptability and convenience of web apps, particularly in museums with predefined routes.
Showcase: The Settlement Center Museum
Located in Borgarnes, Iceland, The Settlement Center presents Iceland’s earliest days and celebrates Egill Skalla-Grímsson, a key figure from the Icelandic Sagas. The exhibitions bring to life one of Iceland’s most important cultural treasures Egils Saga and recount the birth of the nation, drawing visitors from around the world.
Challenges Faced and Desired Features
Before Web App Lite, the museum encountered delays in distributing audio files and headphones during peak hours, leading to visitor inconvenience. Besides, post-COVID, the museum aimed to address visitor discomfort with shared devices.
Implemented Solution
Teaming up with Locatify, the Settlement Center and their sister museum Leif Eiriksson Center implemented the Web Lite App. Visitors effortlessly download the app by scanning QR codes at the counter, enabling offline exploration through their personal devices and headphones, elevating service efficiency.
Testimonial:
“Locatify developed an app for the audio guidance in our exhibitions. The process was very efficient and the service was exemplary. They were there and really understood what we wanted out of the app, and the bottom line was exactly what was proposed”
Helga Margrét Friðriksdóttir – Landnámssetur Íslands / The Settlement Center.
