Where does your houseplant actually come from? How do we know so well how the plant kingdom works these days? The Hortus Botanicus can help you answer these questions. Dating back to 1638 and featuring an impressive and diverse collection of more than 4,000 plants from 7 climates – De Hortus is a world-renowned botanical garden and major tourist attraction in the heart of Amsterdam.

Challenge

Help visitors to discover the stories of the more than 4000 remarkable trees and plants that are incorporated in the different routes that lead guests through the garden and greenhouses. The app is fun for both young and old and takes you on an educational journey of discovery, one that changes with the seasons; every visit, every season, every route is different and gives you a whole new view on the garden!

Solution

The app was developed in partnership with creative producer Soekky Stories, who helped design the custom User Interface templates, custom map overlays and the storytelling content. The app uses a modified white-label app template and the Locatify CMS for managing the app content, including tour maps, points of interest, challenges and media elements.

Testimonial

“Your visit to the Hortus will never be the same again! By adding this touch of technique, you will learn so much more about the special collection!” Hortus Botanicus
