Locatify is a software company specializing in location-based storytelling, interactive tours, and gamification solutions. We help businesses, cultural institutions, and event organizers create engaging, on-location experiences that connect people with places in meaningful and interactive ways.

Founded in Iceland in 2009 by Steinunn-Anna Gunnlaugsdottir and Leifur Bjornsson, Locatify began with a vision to harness the emerging power of mobile internet and GPS technology to share local stories with travelers. Our first product, the SmartGuide app, brought on-location storytelling to life across Iceland, allowing visitors to explore destinations through their phones in a completely new way.

A little ahead of its time, the SmartGuide app didn’t take off. Still, it did spark the creation of what would later become known as the Locatify Builder – which would quickly grow to include digital scavenger hunts and indoor experiences for museums.

From humble beginnings in Iceland to claiming the world’s first BLE Beacon (and UWB!) enabled audio guides, recognition by WIRED,
European Space Agency, RFID Journal, and the Financial Times – Locatify has become a leading company and platform for enabling location-based storytelling and gamification apps and experiences.
